Cranial Osteopathy at Oak Osteo
Laura O’Connor B.Ost is Head Osteopath and Owner of Oak Osteo. She is here to support you through your journey from pain to healing.
Cranial osteopathic treatment is suitable for all ages, however we do not specialise in paediatrics and do not treat children or babies. We do have some excellent osteopathic contacts and will happily recommend one of these if you need to get in touch.
What cranial osteopathy treats
Is cranial osteopathy right for you?
Cranial osteopathy is not separate to osteopathy but is an extension of our hands-on skills. This approach can be more subtle and refined but is still rooted in the principles of osteopathy and the anatomy and physiology of the body.
This refined sense of touch allows the osteopath to feel for the small changes of tension and tissue quality throughout the whole body. These techniques can be used to diagnose strain or dysfunctional patterns. As with all osteopathy the aim of the treatment is to activate the body’s inbuilt ability to heal itself.
- low back pain
- neck pain
- headaches

- arthritis
What cranial osteopathy treats
What does cranial osteopathy treatment feel like?
Cranial osteopathy offers gentle and specific support where it is needed to bring the body back into a state of balance and ease.
The basis of this technique is found in listening and communicating with the body. This can help the osteopath to understand and treat the root cause of the symptoms, reducing the chance of reoccurrence in the future and maintaining health.
During the treatment some people are aware of different sensations, such as mild tension, aching or sensitivity that gradually disappear, or of feelings of warmth and relaxation. Other people are unaware of anything happening at all during the treatment but are aware that they feel very different afterwards. Most people become deeply relaxed during treatment and it is not uncommon for people to fall asleep!
